What is equity drawdown vs balance drawdown?

Balance drawdown only counts closed trades — the decline in account balance after positions are closed. Equity drawdown includes floating losses from open positions, measured minute by minute from M1 candle data. For multi-strategy portfolios, the gap averages 2.1x and can reach 8.5x. A real account with 29 profitable strategies showed 6.6% balance drawdown but 56.3% equity drawdown — the trader was more than halfway to zero and never saw it.

Most EA traders skip this entirely — they add strategies and pick lot sizes by feel.
